The two-family urban town(house) is located on a small city lot within walking distance of vibrant downtown Royal Oak. the design evolved from the simple notion of offsetting (capturing the most natural daylight for each house) two overlapping volumes and by adopting a contrast of materials (burnished concrete block vs. white hardiplank siding) to give each house its own character/individuality. with the modern/open floor plan, the stairway as sculptural form, the common burnished concrete block wall linking the two dwellings together the interior composition has movement, warmth and texture.
